There’s a really simple explanation for this. Basically, before you had a
cellphone, you were still sensing all of these vibrations – from your
pants fibers, stuff in your pockets, friction, etc. But before
cellphones, this sensation never MEANT anything, so your brain wrote it
But now these sensations are similar to a sensation you’ve trained your brain to look out for – a vibration setting.
So all of these little sensations you ignored all the time suddenly have priority, hence the perceived phantom vibration.
