Shortly after midnight on June 15, 1960, the terrified residents of Kopperl, Texas thought the world was ending. Because of a meteorological phenomenon dubbed “Satan’s Storm,” there were 75 mph gusts of wind,  the temperature raised to 140°F and crops were instantly scorched.
